PARROT DADI'S HAPPY LIFE

DaDi , a poll parrot of mine, means the wide land, As a pet, the parrot have been giving me much happy.

Parrot is a general appellation, because there are more than 300 sorts of parrots in the world that are divided into Psittacidae(鹦鹉科) and Cacatuidae (凤头鹦鹉科). DaDi is a Alexandrine Parakeet(亚历山大长尾鹦鹉) whose mother town is India perhaps. It is a pity that I don’t know which place DaDi’s parents have come from, because Alexandrine Parakeet is also a general appellation which is divided into 5 kinds. The shopkeeper only told me that these

parrots lived in India, Nepal, Laos, Burma, Vietnam.

And I don’t know whether it is a boy or a girl. It is said that there will be a black circle around the male bird’s neck when it is one and a half years old but the female has not..

Can DaDi speak? No, it can’t. It is only 3 months old and too young to speak. I feed it with corn, apples, cucumbers, carrots, walnuts, tomatoes, melon seeds while I teach it speaking. DaDi is feed well for which it has a 35 cm body lengh.

Every 7 o’clock, DaDi tweets for foods, and this is a living alarm clock for me. I hardly had breakfast beforetime, but now, I have breakfast because I have to cook for DaDi, and what it eat is just fit for me!

THE ORCHED AND ME

There are four kinds of plants whom are regarded as men of honour by Chinese people. They are PLUM, ORCHID, BAMBOO, CHRYSANTHEMUM. Many celebs had written a lot of poems about these plants and were known on them at last.

In Song dynasty, there was a famous poet named LinBu(林逋) who looked plum as his wife and wrote a very famous poem: “thin shadows lie down the water, and a little aroma dances with dark moon”(疏影横斜水清浅,暗香浮动月黄昏). Zheng BanQiao, a famous painter in Qing dynasty, liked bamboo, and Tao YuanMing, an anchoret in Jin dynasty, liked chrysanthemum. One of the greatest poets named Du Fu who lived in Tang dynasty had written the most famous sentence about orchid, that is: “a nice woman lives in the deep valley only with her grief.”(绝代有佳人,幽居在空谷) This poem expressed the verve of orchid and it went through more than 1300 years that still shined.

The Latin scientific name of orchid is Cymbidium, and its English name is boat orchid. There are more than 35000 sorts of Cymbidium all of the world. The orchids who are also named Chinese orchid are the NO1 in Chinese Ten Famous Flowers because most of them grow in China,. Molan is a kind of orchid which grows in Guang Dong, Fu Jian and several other provinces in the south of China. It often flowers in the spring festival. Now, the orchid you bought in Shen Zhen were mostly Molan.

I bought a Molan last year and gave it much water in order to make it grow up quickly, but the leaves’ color changed from green to black after 3 months and it died soon. I went to ask for the reason, the shopkeeper told what orchids needed was not a lot of water but wet air! Too much water would make orchid’s root perished. How pity I am! So, I bought another one at that time, and looked after it more carefully.

Molan is a huge species of orchid, and what I bought was named Gold Bird for its gold flower. Orchid flowers only one time a year for several days, and the flowers are small, people always enjoy it’s leaves more than it’s flowers. This is connotation, the most important part of Chinese culture.

Kong Zi had said: “the orchid that lived in the valley smells well whether there were others or not, men of honour never stopped upgrading their moral character whether they were in a pretty pass or not.” (芷兰生幽谷,不以无人而不芳;君子修道立德,不因穷困而改节)In China, the orchid is a symbol of loftiness, and I love orchids.
